Here are some lessons we learned from earlier debates:
- only about half the students pass the initial reading check (although that gets better every time). When asked, these people admitted they had only scanned the readings, read them only once, or waited until the last minute to study. Use one of the techniques below to ACTIVELY ENGAGE with the text.
- on that note, you need to understand that we are not going to award such generous credit for weak efforts. You will have to EARN those points!
- we'll give you advise on the debate at the prep meeting on the Wednesday. We can tell you now that the team that wins the debate always has a well prepared opening statement, offers evidence based responses to questions and balance their attacks on the other options.
